PFAS detected directly in Daytona Beach tap water. The city's own August 2024 testing found two PFAS compounds present in the municipal supply: PFHxS at 6.9 parts per trillion and PFPeA at 3.2 parts per trillion. Neither currently has a federal limit, so this isn't listed as a violation — but it confirms PFAS is present in the water coming out of the tap, not just in nearby springs.
A coliform bacteria issue in February 2025. The city detected total coliform bacteria above the 5% threshold across the distribution system, triggering a required Level 1 assessment. The cause was traced to sediment buildup during softener maintenance and autoflushers being temporarily offline. The city completed corrective action, cleaned sample stations, and brought a new 5-million-gallon storage tank online. Resolved, but a real example of what can happen in a large distribution system.
Disinfection byproducts running close to their limits. Total trihalomethanes (TTHM) peaked at 58.7 ppb on average, with individual samples as high as 77.5 ppb against an 80 ppb legal limit. These byproducts form when chloramine disinfectant reacts with organic material in the water — technically compliant, but with limited room to spare.
